The Breadloaf Pro Bono Design
Through the 1% pro bono design program we've been paired with Devon Harris' Keep On Pushing Foundation to design and construct a school kitchen in a poverty stricken neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica. Mr. Harris was a member of the Jamaican Olympic Bobsled team and has returned to the neighborhood in which he grew up in order to improve the education for the children at Drew's Avenue School by providing breakfast and lunch to many children who often go without or are underfed which leads to difficulty in concentrating in class. We are honored to be a part of this effort.

Our solution for this tough environment is a system of painted screens that over the course of two years are the armature for native flowered vines that will completely cover the street side facade and mimic many of the overgrown surrounding walls and garden lots. This strategy provides evaporative and shade cooling as well as providing an urban camouflage to prevent vandalism and tagging common in the neighborhood.
